Group Counseling

Viewpoint Counselors run a variety of groups throughout the year based on student needs.
Take a look at some of the groups we have run in the past!

Anxiety Management Group

There are often a lot of worries that go on in the mind of a middle school student.  This group works to teach coping skills for handling those thoughts and overwhelming feelings. This group strives to help students take the skills learned in the group and apply them to all of life’s situations. This group is held throughout the year.

Friendship Group

This group strives to assist students with developing a friendship skill set that includes initiating conversation, making and keeping friends, carrying on an appropriate conversation, and conflict resolution. Friendship groups are held throughout the school year.

Divorce Group

Students who participate in this group gather to discuss the often difficult feelings they may have around the topic of divorce and/or a new marriage, step-parent or step-siblings.  Meeting together on a regular basis can aid students with processing their feelings while giving them a new perspective on how to handle things moving forward. This group runs as needed throughout the year.

Grief Group

This group helps students learn about different types of grief responses and understand that we all may grieve differently. We work to support each student in the uniqueness of their grief process. Grief groups often help decrease a students isolation as well as instill hope that is it possible to find strength and grow through their personal grief experiences. Grief group runs as needed throughout the year.

Social Skills Group

This group works to empower students to thrive in their social interactions. Topics often include introducing yourself to others, expected vs. unexpected behaviors, sharing the perspective of others, feeling identification and management as well as any teachable moments that may come up. Social skills group runs as needed throughout the year.
